About our lab

In the past decade, topological quantum materials have become one of the most active research fields in condensed matter physics due to their scientific significance and technological potentials. Many topological quantum materials host intrinsic spin-polarized surface/edge electronic states and immune to backscattering from impurities, making them important candidates for low-dissipation electronic devices for post-Moore’s law semiconductor industry.

The ShanghaiTech Laboratory for Topological Physics is founded with the support from the Key Research Program of Shanghai (titled as "Exploration of topological electronic structure and its application in quantum computing"). The scientific goal of the lab is to investigate the fundamental physics of topological quantum materials and explore materials exhibiting topologically non-trivial electronic structure; by utilizing their unique physical properties, we aim at achieving technical implementation of topological quantum materials, including the prototype of topological quantum computer with non-Abelian quasiparticles.
